Royal Route Community Garden
The name Royal Route is a play on words – a double entendre. It is an homage to El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro – or Royal Road of the Interior. This trail was the primary 1,600-mile route between the colonial Spanish capital of Mexico City and provincial capitals to the north between the 16th and 19th centuries.
The City Urban Agriculture plan outlines such uses as farm stands and the City Transportation plan outlines this corridor as an arterial bicycle path connecting the University area to the Original Townsite and beyond.
The Garden sits along this historic trail on the corner of Mesquite and Soledad streets in the original townsite. We are located at 646 S Mesquite St. which also happens to represent the total US portion of the trail in kilometers!
