Leah Messina is the CEO of Sinuate Media, a digital marketing and publicity firm she founded in 2006. She has led extensive promotions for product launches, ecommerce businesses, entertainment, professional services, and educational institutions. She has helped launch several startups and currently serves as an Enterprise Advisor at The Arrowhead Center at NMSU. Leah holds a BA in Professional Writing & Communication Design from Carnegie Mellon University and a MS in Marketing from Johns Hopkins University. A New York native, she has been a Las Cruces resident since 2010.

A New Mexico Native-Born in Portales, Heather grew up in Norman, Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism / Advertising. She has worked in the retail industry since she was 16 years old and came to Las Cruces via Dallas,Texas to take over the Dillard’s store as the general manager. She had the great opportunity to buy LuLu and does all the buying, merchandising and marketing. She is now a vocal advocate for small/local business in Las Cruces and is passionate about animal rights and rescue.
Board Treasurer: Mary Canavan
NASA White Sands Test Facility
Born in Carlsbad, Mary Canavan is a native New Mexican and has lived in Las Cruces since 1986. She holds an MS in Geology and is a Sustainable Resource Management Certified Professional. Mary is a Geologist and Sustainability Team Lead at the NASA White Sands Test Facility (WSTF) and has been involved in “greening” the NASA Facility since 2005. She oversees the WSTF Recycling Program, worked to develop the Green Procurement Program, and supports green projects site wide. Mary served on the committee that brought electronics, single stream, and curbside recycling programs to Las Cruces and Doña Ana County. She currently serves on the glass recycling subcommittee that is supporting the new SCSWA glass recycling pilot project.
Board Member: Melissa Brice
Melissa Brice is a Las Cruces Native. She is the Contract Administrator for Jacobs NASA, where they emphasize small business and sustainable acquisition goals. Her parents have been proudly self-employed for many years. Melissa, although on the Green Chamber Board for less than a year, has taken her role seriously, in advocating on behalf of locally owned businesses. As one of the administrators of the Green Chamber Facebook page, Melissa is constantly sharing valuable information and facts about the importance of thinking Local First.
Board Member: Corey Asbill
Positive Energy Solar
Corey Asbill was born in Artesia, NM and graduated high school from Cloudcroft. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from NMSU in 2002. He has been working in the renewable energy industry for the past 15 years. Thirteen of those years, he has been at the solar energy research center on the campus of NMSU and two years with SunPower by Positive Energy Solar. He retains a passion for renewable energy system deployment and sustainable development adoption and practice.
Board Member: Jason Koenig
Jason a native New Mexican born in Clovis and has called Las Cruces home for 20 years. He earned his Bachelor’s in Mass Communication and Journalism and an MBA from New Mexico State University. He has spent his career developing programs to build a sustainable entrepreneurial environment and recently founded a new company focused on capacity building in the non-profit sector. Jason is passionate about fostering entrepreneurship and building ecosystems that support our local economy.
Immediate Past President: Lucas Herndon
Lucas is a Las Cruces native. He managed a popular local bookstore before starting his own insurance company in 2011. In 2012, Lucas was appointed Executive Director of the Friends of the Organ Mountains – Desert Peaks, a local nonprofit working to educate the public and advocate for the creation of a National Monument in Doña Aña County. Lucas joined the board in 2012 and he serves on the Think Local First committee.
